The Full Story
This endeavor is for all the people who are trapped right now and do not have a framework, a voice, or the belief that change is needed.
The Objective
Transparency is the key to everything. It is our future. As of today, transparency is an illusion. Information is being aggregated by a select few in our society to both control power and monetize the information in ways that we cannot see. We are aware of this issue whether we have read articles on our massive data industry or simply scroll through our social media feeds. We see it in the companies we work in. We see it in the incredible number of applications/software that now make our daily lives function. The critical element missing at this moment are feedback systems that make substantial changes for our daily lives in a positive way. These systems need to improve the lives of each person and society as whole. This framework must be fully transparent and equitable for everyone. This is the first step in my endeavor to resolve this issue.
How did I get here?
I am a person who has been aware of my material influence on people from an early age. This is something I have reflected on extensively throughout my life. It has haunted me at times, but it has given me the ability to exceed where other people have failed. No one has ever mistaken me for a weak person. My strength draws people in. I had to learn to set personal boundaries at an early age both due to extreme life circumstances and this alluring influence.
My strength calms and comforts but it can also be scary. When people meet me for the first time, they can sense a slight bit of danger to my personality, but what draws them in is that my strength is highly protective. I am the warrior everyone wants on their side. It is the strongest and most successful people who are most easily captivated. I can see it when I first meet them. There is a subtle sensation of them wanting to take ownership of me. There have also been plenty of times where it was not subtle at all. I have been followed by men in public spaces many times in my life. They will wait for me to leave the building and stand outside to talk to me. Compelled to tell me that I am a beautiful person. Ask to take me out. Amusingly, it happened one time with 4 kids in tow. This did not hurt my ego. However, I know I am not that beautiful. There are plenty of women who are far more attractive than me. It is my strength to which they are drawn. My physical appearance is just their excuse to talk to me.
This strength has protected me many times in my life, but I have been overconfident in my ability to protect myself. It took a tip-of-the-iceberg event this past week to see that I have been trapped in toxic relationships my entire career. MY ENTIRE CAREER. I’m 47 years old. I have been working in a professional environment for almost 30 years and trapped in toxic relationships the entire time. WTF? Why did it take me so long to figure out that I was trapped? How many people are in this situation right now? Why do we not feel comfortable speaking freely with people who can change our situation? Why does it take so long to figure out that the strain of the situation is unhealthy, and we must take action to protect ourselves?
I am very fortunate to work at a company full of high-quality people, and the company has demonstrated they genuinely care about their employees. I can see this mindset in every person in management I have interacted with. If I don’t feel comfortable speaking up in this environment, there are undoubtedly millions of people trapped at this moment right now. Suffering every day. Just trying to make it through one more day so they can feed themselves. Put clothes on their family. Keep a roof over their heads.
We need to think about this problem, and frankly all problems within businesses and communities, from a new perspective. Come up with new ideas that resolve these issues without a punitive or financial incentive component. We need to stop expecting someone else to solve our problems and work together to create a framework that provides real solutions to our daily challenges.
We all see technology taking our jobs. It’s been going on for so long that we are numb to the issue. It’s only going to get much worse from here. It is critical that we move forward with changes that improve our lives. We cannot expect our employers or our politicians to solve our problems. It’s our responsibility to step up.
The timing is perfect. AI is the vehicle for this substantial change. Many people in the tech industry see this wave coming. Don’t let them be the only ones in the driver’s seat. We need people with real problems driving the change.
Are you someone who needs substantial change in your life? If so, I welcome and encourage your involvement in this process.
